We don’t pronounce it the English way, although you could and I wouldn’t really mind. The „A“ is pronounced a bit like in „barn“ or „yarn“ or, most likely: „darn“, but shorter. The „e“ at the end is not dropped like it is when you pronounce it the English way. It’s a little bit like the „e“ in end, although I have yet to find the right English equivalent for the German pronounciation of the „e“.
(And this is not a silly question at all, considering I spent years mispronouncing „Phoebe“.)

Q: Since when do you cook?

A: I actually can’t really tell. There was no specific point in my life where I suddenly discovered the joys of cooking. My parents and grandparents did a lot of cooking and baking and my mother still is widely known for her pre-Christmas cookie baking marathons. But I also remember a lot of fast food and fish sticks with potatoes and the like. I’d also like to add that I wasn’t what you’d call a healthy eater as a child. I’d reject most of all cooked vegetables, making exceptions for potatoes, carrots and – occasionally – peas. I still enjoy burgers and potato chips, but fortunately I also learned to love cooked vegetables since I was a kid.
Back to the question: I guess I have always cooked, in the sense of being able to prepare my own meal. In the past few years though, I’ve become more and more serious about it, trying out new meals, constantly browsing books and magazines and even attempting to make my own bagels and such.

Q: What is your favorite food?

As with kids you shouldn’t play favorites with food. Besides, it totally depends on my mood. I am a big fan of hot and spicy food, and I make a mean chili con carne. There’s not a specific cuisine I prefer. I like Japanese, French, Oriental, American, British and after all, German food. Most of all I like to try out new things and have gotten kind of bold lately, getting myself into culinary adventures like ordering my first foie gras in a tiny restaurant in France or eating a surprise dinner in total darkness. If it doesn’t look too gross, chances are I try it. Needless to say I am also a big fan of all things hors d’oeuvres, tapas, antipasti, watchamacallit. And there’s a lot more. You’ll learn about it in time.

Q: There must be things you don’t like. What are they?

I don’t like bananas. The only way I like them is fried and dribbled with honey or carefully hidden and nearly undetectable in a shake of some sort. Same goes for pineapple. I will eat it if I must, but I usually wouldn’t include it in any dish I make. As for vegetables I still haven’t learned to like spinach. I will tolerate it in small doses. Same goes for most kinds of cabbage. I’m also not a big fan of celery and fennel, though I’m not too sure about the fennel. I just feel like I don’t like it, though maybe I’m wrong. Also, blame my sensitive taste buds or whatever, I usually don’t like things that taste bitter. I can deal with endive, but not with brussels sprouts.
But then again, you can never be sure. Considering how many things I learned to like or even love in the years since I was a kid, I never rule out the possibiliy that maybe, just maybe, I will learn to love the things I now avoid.

Q: What camera do you use?

The first pictures were taken with a Fuji Finepix A101, my very first digital camera. I got it a few years ago (around 2003 or something like that) and unfortunately it was quite useless for capturing food.

We kids then decided to go crazy and bought ourselves a shiny new Nikon D70s in late 2006. I had noticed that both Heather from Dooce and Clotilde from Chocolate and Zucchini used a Nikon D70 and from my amateur’s point of view the pictures they took looked great. So now I have to learn what all these tiny buttons and switches do, but I also have a lot more control over what the pictures will look like.

Q: So, how do you pronounce Anne?
